2015: The keys to Patient Retention and Patient Growth
1. Marketing. The more patients you reach, the more people you have the opportunity to serve.
2. The telephone. When a patient calls it is always best to have a real person (with a friendly tone and a smile) answer the phone.
3. Check-in and waiting. Be sure to greet everyone arriving in your office with an open-ended question, such as “Hi, how may I help you?”
4. Practitioner interaction. Address patients as Ms. or Mr. and their last name. Staff members should make eye contact.
5. Follow-up. Following up with your patients after their visit is key. Texting, e-Mailing, phone calling could all help! Using data mining techniques reach out to your patients and inform them that they need to make a follow-up appointment or that it is time for their annual appointment.
The key to retaining patients is to start recognizing that your patients are consumers with choices. Once you can fully understand and appreciate that, you can watch your retention rate climb.
